The Farnborough Airshow, the largest aviation event of the year, opened its doors in the United Kingdom.

The Farnborough Airshow UK began with promises of large orders for Boeing and Airbus. Orders quickly materialized: the aircraft lessor GE Capital Aviation Services has commissioned a hundred planes from both manufacturers (60 A320 family aircraft from Airbus, 40 Boeing B737-800) for a total value of 7.5 billion.

Earlier, Airbus had confirmed the purchase of eleven A330-300 by the Russian airline Aeroflot. And the American aircraft leasing Air Lease Corporation (LAC) had ordered 20 Airbus A321 medium-haul and 31 A320s for 4.4 billion dollars.

Emirates Airline on its part had ordered 30 long-haul Boeing 777-300 additional, an order worth 9.1 billion dollars.

The Italian manufacturer AgustaWestland, a subsidiary of Finmeccanica, has also presented his new helicopter, the AW169. The device is in the running to equip police forces or rescue teams from the United Kingdom. The British hope to participate in the program and even build a party.

The AW169 is a multirole aircraft that can carry up to ten passengers. It will be equipped with two engines. However, Finmeccanica has not disclosed what engine was chosen, nor what would be the date of commissioning.

Finmeccanica expects to sell up to 1,000 helicopters of this type in the next 20 years.
